INRODUCTION:

Finally, another Zhon map! After nearly a nine month hiatus from map making, Ive decided it is high time for another effort. To be honest this map had been nearly completed almost after Cayambe, but I never got around to finishing up all those pesky features. On the subject of Cayambe, I just want to say thanks to all of those who gave me props for the work the Zhon tileset has been a real pain in the *** to convert and to this day is still not entirely finished. Hats off to whomever at CD created this magnificent set, because despite the trouble Im continually amazed at how really beautiful Zhon really is.

In the Tropics employs new terrain elements not found in the savannahs of Cayambe. Here youll find more luscious jungles and swamps along with moss covered jungle hillsides. Ruins and temples can also be found amidst the dense inlands away from the sandy coastlines. Ive also opened up the waters a bit for more intense naval engagements. You may have also noticed there are only three primary start positions, with one set apart from the mainland. In the Tropics is primarily a two player map, however, and is meant for those who prefer medium to long battles as opposed to the close infighting of the previous map.

Like Cayambe, In the Tropics includes an optional sound FX file that uses requires the TAK_FX file included in the Cayambe map. If you have not tried this before, give it a go in skirmish youll really like it.

In the Tropics is also, of course, based on the wonderful works of Frederic Edwin Church, though this title is one of his less familiar works. Church was most famous for his renderings of the South American tropics in the late 1850's through the 1860's. If you are interested in learning more, check out the web - there are several dedicated sites to Church's works.

DIRECTIONS:

To use this map, simply unzip it to your TOTALA folder.

Remember that YOU MUST HAVE TAK_ANIMS_1.ufo (or a higher version) IN ORDER TO PLAY THIS MAP! The latest version is available at TAMEC in the Utilities section.

If you want to add some jungle background noise to the map, make sure you have the TAK_FX_1.ufo found in the 'Cayambe' map download file in your TOTALA directory. Next, create a folder called, MAPS under your TOTALA folder (if it is not already available) and place the In the Tropics.ota file there this contains the OTA information that adds the jungle sounds to In the Tropics. If you wish to remove the FX pack, simply remove the ufo file as well as the In the Tropics.ota file under maps.

WHATS NEXT?

A complete update to the TAK_ANIMS file with burning trees and reclaim animations! You can thank Chinahook for this one!
Also, there is this business with completing the Aramon tileset...
